The social mixer is an event that comes off of the national film tour and recently Viacom screened documentary “Am I: [Too African to be American or Too American to be African?],” a film which highlights the complexities of growing up as African & American navigating through both worlds simultaneously. Nadia Sasso, the film’s director and producer says “I hope to give everyone an experience that will not only evoke the joys and pains of growing up both African and American, but also providing attendees with an experience that they can walk away from feeling proud and inspired of their history in order to go out into the world with the confidence they need to take on the world and all it has to offer.”
Held at the newly developed H Street and celeb attended AVERY’S BAR & LOUNGE, (1370 H St NE, Washington, DC 20002) this intimate and cozy venue of 2 floors and charming rooftop will be filled with young vibrant individuals who are looking to “chill” and network with fellow Africans of the diaspora and entrepreneurs alike. The happy hour event, held from 4pm -8pm invites guests of all backgrounds to join in on a more relaxed and humorous conversation of “Am I The Film” that reflects on how their upbringing has shaped them to be the dynamic generation they are today. Guests can expect to be greeted by Aunty Patience at the door, snack on chin chin, jam to Afrobeats old and new provided by Tag Soundz while sipping on specialty African inspired cocktails. Comedian Lesley will also be in the building providing the laughs while the lifestyle brand Royal Dynamite supplies guests with a swag bag you don’t want to miss out on.
